FNM Chairman: PLP Disappointingly Quiet on Gender Based Violence Issues

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – After a heavy week for gender-based violence, officials from the Free National Movement (FNM) are questioning the Progressive Liberal Party’s (PLP) sincerity on fighting gender-based violence and calling on them to publicly and officially condemn gender-based violence.

Chairman of the Free National Movement Dr. Duane Dands spoke out in a statement released Monday morning, saying members of the PLP are either disappointingly silent or seemingly ambivalent when it comes to directly condemning gender-based violence.

Last week, was a heavy week for gender-based violence – on April 14th, a mother and her teenage daughter were found murdered in their New Providence home.

A week earlier, on April 7th, a woman went to police accusing a sitting Progressive Liberal Party MP of rape and death threats, alleging abuse in the relationship had been ongoing for months.

The FNM chairman says Bahamians are listening for clarity on how serious the PLP is on the issue.
