Residents Sound Off On GB Water Hike

GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – In just a few weeks, 60 percent of customers of the Grand Bahama Utility Company will see an increase in their bills. The utility company has expressed that they’ve spent over 15 million dollars to assist with Hurricane Dorian repairs adding the increase will also assist in the construction of a 1.5 million reverse osmosis plant that will relieve some of the water issues on that northern island. We spoke with several Grand Bahama residents about the rate hike.

One resident expressed frustration following the announcement of a water rate increase by the Grand Bahama Utility Company.

The Grand Bahama Port Authority, the regulators for the GB utility company approved the rate adjustment last week.

Forty percent of customers will see no change in their bills come June 1st. However, some residents still say now is just simply not the time.

Another resident says she understands the company took a huge loss since the passage of Hurricane Dorian but she doesn’t believe residents should bear the cost.
