B.U.T. Concerns Being Addressed by Ministry

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A top Ministry of Education official responding to threats of industrial action by the Bahamas Union of Teachers (BUT). 

Union President Belinda Wilson says teachers are upset over issues ranging from money to human resources. 

Days after threats of industrial action by the BUT over allowance payments and human resources matters, Acting Education Director Dominique McCartney-Russell says payment is on the way.

With the summer break approaching, the BUT has expressed frustration on the time it’s taken to address the issues. 

Mccartney-Russell says these matters take time as there is a process…

And as it relates to staffing issues, Wilson says the union  made many recommendations on how the ministry can go about resolving the matter. 

Mccartney-Russell says those recommendations have been received and steps have been taken to get more staff.

Russell says the goal is to digitize HR to avoid issues going forward.
