NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Parliamentarians dedicating the beginning of today’s sitting to pay tribute to former PLP Cabinet Minister George Smith.

Smith served as member of parliament for Exuma for 29 years before stepping down from frontline politics.

MP’s on the governing side remembering their fallen colleague as a dedicated public servant, nationalist and a defender of all things Bahamian.

Smith was a signatory at the constitutional conference in 1972 which laid the groundwork for Bahamian independence.

He also held several cabinet posts including minister of transport, agriculture and more recently special advisor to the prime minister ahead of the 50th independence celebration

Free National Movement Leader Michael Pintard also paying tribute to the former MP.
