Preserving The History of Govt. House

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – It’s one of the oldest standing landmarks in New Providence, but after receiving some much-needed upgrades, the historical Government House has a new and improved look.

Perched on Mount Fitzwilliam, Government House was originally built in the 1800’s.

It’s the official residence of the Governor-General of The Bahamas and over the years the age-old structure has seen its fair share of improvements.

The most recent renovations began back in June 2020, with contractors meticulously preserving the historical features of the house.

History Preservation Architect Consultant, Alicia Oxley says while some of the features remain the same, there were some adjustments based on the building code of today.
