ISRAEL – Israeli doctors began a 24-hour strike today in response to the government’s ratification of the first part of judicial reforms that some fear endanger the independence of the courts.

Demonstrations have been ongoing for months, but on Monday night, thousands took to the streets scuffling with police.

Critics say the new law threatens democracy, claiming long-serving Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is pushing Israel towards autocracy.
