NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A man who gunned down another man in the street has been convicted of murder.

Franklyn Edgecombe, 54, did not react outwardly as the jury foreman delivered the unanimous verdict finding him guilty of the December 11, 2018 murder of 31-year-old Rico Archer.

But Archer’s family cried tears of joy and exclaimed, “Thank you Jesus.”

An eyewitness said he saw firing at Archer as he ran away on North Street in Mason’s Addition.

Once Archer fell, the witness said Edgecombe stood over his body and fired several more shots.

Edgecombe claimed he was at work when the murder took place, but his boss did not confirm his alibi.

The Archer family is no stranger to tragedy.

Rico’s younger brother, 11-year-old Marco Archer, was kidnapped and murdered in 2011.

Justice Franklyn Williams KC will hold a sentencing hearing for Edgecombe on October 18.

Timothy Bailey and Tamika Roberts were the prosecutors. Edgecombe was represented by Public Defender Marianne Cadet.
