In the Kool Acres Shantytown we met a Haitian Bahamian who took us through several homes in the community.
As we walked through the cramped pathways many residents beckoned us to come inside to see that they were preparing to leave. One of them, a mother of a 3-month-old baby.
According to our guide and translator, another home, which is barely furnished, belongs to a woman who is mentally challenged.
Health hazards and poor environmental conditions are primary reasons for demolition. This stuck out to us as we continued our trek through the community.
A small room that houses two now filled with packed belongings, the occupants telling Our News that they need more time.
