NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Just over a week before Christmas, a shantytown resident is homeless. It was a few weeks ago that her home was one of several demolished by the Ministry of Works.

Speaking through a translator she told me she lost the majority of her possessions. The bright side? Marie had neighbors to take her in.

She says she also reached out to the Haitian community, but nothing. It’s a situation she dreads as Christmas approaches.

We also met two officers walking through the community. While the majority of the structures are still standing, demolition is coming soon.
