NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Heading into the final day of competition, The Bahamas had 804 points, more than 300 points ahead of the Cayman Islands.

That meant more gold medals too, a total of 26 by the end of the evening session on day three of the 2024 CARIFTA Aquatics Championships

Both senior captains also took home gold medals for The Bahamas with Rhanishka Gibbs getting a new CARIFTA record as well.

And the message from Head Coach Travano McPhee was a simple one.

CARIFTA Track and Field

As the curtain closed on the 51st Carifta Track and Field Championships, Team Bahamas finished second in the standings. 

The team concluded the meet in St. George’s, Grenada with 33 medals – nine gold, 11 silver, and 13 bronze. 

The final session Monday night featured six medals for Team Bahamas, highlighted by Aniah Rolle’s CARIFTA record setting performance in the pole vault at 2.90m.

Terell McCoy medaled in her second event with a silver in the under 17 girls discuss at 36.09m and Rollie Hanna won bronze in the u-20 boys triple jump at 14.85m. 

On the track, Jahcario Wilson won silver in the u-20 boys 100m hurdles in 13.94 seconds, the u-17 4×400 girls finished second in 3:47.13 seconds and u-20 4×400 girls were third in 3:49.82 seconds.

Perennial champions Jamaica took first place with 83 medals – 44 gold, 23 silver, and 16 bronze.

Basketball

Celbrated as one of the top high school basketball prospects in America, VJ Edgecombe is already using his platform to foreshadow his plans for future generation of Bahamian hoopers.

Edgecombe is preparing for the Mcdonald’s All-American tonight at 9:30pm at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.
