JAPAN – Loaves of bread have been recalled in Japan due to suspected contamination. Store shelves were cleared after remains of a small animal, likely a rat, were found. Production was halted at a Tokyo factory, with 104,000 packages.

The company issued apologies and vows compensation.

Japan, known for its stringent food safety standards, faces recent food safety concerns, including 1,000 sickened schoolchildren from milk and two restaurant-related illnesses earlier this month.
