NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A mother accused of failing to report the sexual abuse of her 15-year-old daughter to authorities  is behind bars, while the man accused of molesting her daughter has been offered $7,000 bail.

Prosecutors say the 43-year-old  Haitian woman failed to report the alleged abuse between May 1 and 15.

Her 37-year-old Haitian boyfriend is accused of indecently assaulting the teen over this period.

They both denied the allegations at their arraignment before Assistant Chief Magistrate Carolyn Vogt-Evans.

The mother was remanded to prison because she isn’t in the country legally. By contrast, the boyfriend is a permanent resident.

They are next in court on August 8 for the start of their trial.
