NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Slavery, nature, and art intersect at the wake of a haunting, a two-woman show hosted at the tern art gallery featuring artists La Vaughn Belle from Trinidad and Bahamian-American Tamika Galanis.
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Slavery, nature, and art intersect at the wake of a haunting, a two-woman show hosted at the tern art gallery featuring artists La Vaughn Belle from Trinidad and Bahamian-American Tamika Galanis.
Despite their different backgrounds, their work shows that our shared stories are similar.
Through film, photo, and sculpted works, they explore the voices of the enslaved people, whom historians seldom mention as anything more than chattel.
Galanis shares some of her work’s inspiration, drawing a strong parallel between modern bahamians and the coloured people of the american south.
