Kendal Hanna Born (1936)

In 1936, painter and sculptor Kendal Hanna was born. Hanna is recognized as one of the country’s first abstract expressionists. His work has been inspired by and compared to international artists and peers. Hanna’s art is featured in several private collections both locally and internationally.

Gerald Cash Steps Down (1988)

In 1988, Gerald Cash stepped down as Governor-General of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas. He had served since September 24, 1979, when he was appointed by Prime Minister Lynden Pindling following the death of Milo Butler on January 22, 1979.

Strachan’s Auto Repair Fire (2013)

In 2013, a massive fire broke out at Strachan’s Auto Repair and Radiator on Soldier Road, raging into the night and nearly reaching the surrounding residential area. The fire sent a thick pillar of smoke into the clouds. Firefighters began battling the blaze around 4 p.m.
