On Sunday, Parliament and Rawson Squares erupted with the sounds of musical instruments for the annual pre-independence Beat Retreat. Featuring the Royal Bahamas Police Force, Defense Force, and Correctional bands, this year was another edition to remember. Hundreds of Bahamians lined the streets and sat in the square to witness the bands’ display of musical excellence, including the governor general, the prime minister, the leader of the opposition, and several other dignitaries.

The highlight was seeing Bahamians show up in large numbers despite the weather, holding umbrellas as the rain came down and enjoying the show. The most captivating part was the display of budding talent showcased through children and teens performing musical tributes to senior Bahamian musicians, backed by the Royal Bahamas Police Force Band.
