VENEZUELA – Venezuela’s opposition claimed victory in Sunday’s presidential election, despite the government declaring president Nicolás Maduro the winner.

Opposition candidate Edmundo González asserted a significant lead based on 40% of voting tallies.

The national electoral council, controlled by Maduro loyalists, reported Maduro won with 51% of the vote but withheld detailed results.

Foreign leaders, including U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, expressed doubts about the announced results.

Maduro accused foreign entities of trying to disrupt peace, while opposition figures highlighted significant security and electoral failures.
