LIMA, PERU – Team Bahamas is just hours away from competition at the World Athletics u-20 Championships.

The meet officially gets underway tomorrow at the la Videna Athletics Stadium in Lima, Peru and four members Team Bahamas will be in action on the track and in the field.

Shayann Demeritte will be up first in the women’s 100m heats at 11:10am, followed by Jeremiah Adderley and Carlos Brown in the men’s 100m heats at 12:10pm.

Calea Jackson will be in the first group of discus qualification at 12:35pm.

Other team members include Taysha Stubbs in the javelin; Kei-Mahri Hanna in the 400m hurdles; Justin Hanna in the high jump; Shania Adderley, Quincy Penn, and Zion Miller in the 400m; Nia Richards, Alexis Roberts, Andrew Styles, in the 200m; Tahj Brown and Tayshaun Robinson in the 110m hurdles; and Brenden Vanderpool in the pole vault.

The team is coached Darron Lightbourn, assisted by Ravanno Ferguson and Corrington Maycock. Laketah Charlton is the team manager.

More than 1700 athletes from 134 countries are set to compete at the event.

Basketball

Garvin Clarke is set to make his pro basketball debut in spain.

Clarke signed with  l’Horta Godella  Basketball Club of the Feb Segunda, the second division in Spain.

The 6 foot guard spent four years of experience in NCAA Basketball- three seasons at the Division I level with the Akron Zips and most recently in division in Division II with the Iup Crimson Hawks.

In his NCAA career, Clarke totaled 728 points, 365 rebounds, 234 assists and 89 steals across his time at Akron and iup since 2020.

Last year in his his lone season at iup he was an All-PSAC first team selection after averaging 18.1 points and a league leading 5.6 assists per game.

From one raw talent signee to another, this one, making his debut with a new club.

Domnick Bridgewater suited up for champagne basket for the first time as the club began its preseason in France’s LNB Pro B League.

He finished with 20 points in the team’s final preseason matchup against rouen metropole.

Champagne opens the regular season against rouen on September 20th.

This year with champagne marks the highest promotion of Bridgewater’s career, contracted for a full season.

He previously played in Pro B for just three games in 2021 when For-Sur-Mer Byers needed depth for a playoff run.

His career in france began at the under-21 level in the byers organization.

The team then placed him on loan to Sapela Basket 13 in the nm2 league. 

Most recently, he spent the last two seasons with US Avignon in the NM1 League where, he averaged 14.4 points, 4.8 assists per game.

Baseball

Chavez Young continues to make an impact at every stop on his pro baseball journey.

Young is quickly becoming a fan favorite for the Lake County Dockhounds of the American Association of Professional Baseball.

Led by Young, the Dockhounds shutout the Chicago Dogs 4-0 to begin their final road series of the season.

On the defensive side he delivered a perfect throw to nail Johnni Turbo at home to end the second inning.

At the plate, young hit an rbi-double  to bring in the game’s first run. 

Then, in the eighth inning young hit a two-run triple to give him three rbis on the night.

Lake Country is now four games in front of the Milwaukee Milkmen for the final playoff spot in the American Association East Division standings.

They’re also just two games behind the Dogs for third place.
