BEWU Optimistic After A Meeting With Energy Minister

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Things seem to be heading in the right direction following a meeting between Energy Minister Jobeth Coleby-Davis and Bahamas Power and Light (BPL) workers.

Specifically, the Bahamas Electrical Workers Union is now optimistic about the future after the interaction.

The union has aired its concerns publicly for months, accusing the government of keeping them in the dark regarding BPL’s future. Union President Kyle Wilson says that’s now all in the past.

And what’s the cause? A 25-year contract with Pike Corporation through its Bahamian management company, Island Grid Solutions, for the upgrade and management of the transmission and distribution network.

Wilson says Coleby-Davis assured workers that no jobs would be lost.

He also notes that the minister met with several departments, specifically the transport department and system control.
