Chaos Building For Shippers As U.S. Port Strike Continues

UNITED STATES – As tens of thousands of dockworkers strike at U.S. ports, analysts warn that prolonged disruptions could raise consumer prices and cause shortages, especially in groceries and alcohol.

The International Longshoremen’s Association workers halted operations at 14 key ports from Maine to Texas Tuesday, impacting over half of U.S. container imports.

Fresh produce, which includes 75% of the nation’s banana supply, is particularly at risk.

The pharmaceutical industry is also adjusting logistics, but the FDA reports no current impact on medical supplies.

U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito has urged President Biden to take stronger action regarding the strike.
