American Accused of Plotting to Kill Husband Remains In Prison

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – An American woman and her Bahamian lover remain in custody while the appellate court decides whether a judge was right to revoke their bail.

Lindsay Shiver and her boyfriend were sent back to prison on October 28 after Senior Justice Cheryl Grant-Thompson ruled they’d breached their bail conditions.

In July 2023, the pair was arrested along with Faron Newbold Jr. on allegations that they were planning to kill Shiver’s husband.

They were freed on bail in August 2023 with certain stipulations.

Grant-Thompson revoked Shiver’s bail after finding she’d violated an order to live at her parents’ home in Alabama by staying at other residences without getting approval from the court.

As for Bethel, he was found to have missed signing in at a police station as directed by the court.

At the appeal, lawyers Damien Gomez KC and Ian Cargill argued that the ruling to revoke bail was flawed.

They pointed out that both accused never missed their court dates, and Shiver came to The Bahamas, knowing that prosecutors wanted her back behind bars.

Acting DPP Cordell Frazier argued that the revocation decision should stand.

Justices of Appeal Jon Isaacs, Milton Evans, and Bernard Turner have reserved their decision.
