NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A judge has set a May 2025 trial date for a policeman accused of killing an unarmed teenager in 2017.

Corporal Dennis Sturrup learned his trial date after he was arraigned on a manslaughter charge before Senior Justice Cheryl Grant-Thompson.

Prosecutors say Sturrup unlawfully killed the Gino Finley Jr, a 15-year-old R. M. Bailey High School student, on May 23, 2017.

Sturrup has pleaded not guilty to the charge and remains on bail.

His trial is scheduled from May 26 through 30 before Justice Grant-Thompson.

Sturrup’s arraignment comes on the heels of a coroner’s jury finding that Finley was unjustifiably killed.

Meanwhile, three police officers facing manslaughter charges in the December 26, 2021 death of Azario Major also pleaded not guilty.

Sergeant Antoine Sweeting, Sergeant Jamal Johnson and Corporal Deangelo Rolle had their case transferred to Justice Guillimina Archer-Minns.

They’re due to appear before her on December 18 to receive a trial date.
