NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A court has been granted permission to begin hearing extradition proceedings against a British citizen accused of kidnapping her son.

Prosecutors allege that 43-year-old Barbara Stcherbatcheff, also known as Barbara Lynn Murphy, kidnapped her eight-year-old son in February 2022 in Switzerland, triggering an international manhunt.

She and her son were found in The Bahamas in December 2004.

The son, now 10, has since since been reunited with his father.

Stcherbatcheff is wanted by the Swiss Confederation.

Chief Magistrate Roberto Reckley received an authority to proceed with the extradition today.

Stcherbatcheff remains in custody and returns to court on February 13.
