A Teen, Androsians, Popular Dj, and Bandmates Among Victims of Andros Plane Crash

ANDROS, BAHAMAS – ANDROS, BAHAMAS – Although police haven’t officially identified the victims of Independence Day’s North Andros Crash, all weekend, tributes poured across social media.

ANDROS, BAHAMAS – The country is still reeling from that tragic plane crash in Andros, that claimed ten lives.

Tragedy struck when the Cessna 402 plane, a Flamingo Air aircraft, with registration number C6-FLX, went down in bushes near the San Andros Airport on July 10th.

Meanwhile, there has been no official identification of the victims, as tributes and reflections have poured in from those they left behind.

Five members of the well-known Bahamian group, Da Pond Band, died in the crash, including band leader Giovanni McKenzie, and members Rashad Storr, Mateo Winder, Toniquea Gilot, and Tra’vis Johnson.

Giovanni, who was the group’s keyboardist and leader, was honored during a church service at Revolution Church on Sunday.

Bass and guitar players, Mateo, and Rashad were also remembered at their church – New Life Restoration Ministries.

Also on that ill-fated flight was Melvin Henfield, also known to his thousands of fans as DJ Fresh – a staple in the entertainment industry.

The Andros community also lost two of their own, as natives, Quintin Myers and Macaro Rolle, who both worked at Ocean Cay, were also onboard the flight.

Rolle, who managed to run out of the wreck, was found with extensive burns covering his entire body.

One of his friends, racing to the crash site where he sat with his friend for nearly two hours, praying and calling his relatives.

He later died in the ambulance.

16-year-old Nicholas Oliver was reportedly a last-minute addition to the flight. His family in Andros was awaiting his arrival, but he never returned.

His father tells Our News, they were left devastated.

The pilot, Franklyn Cambridge, who some online have hailed as an experienced pilot, also died in the crash.
