Bahamas Ratifies Two ILO Conventions

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Bahamas signed two international labor conventions yesterday and launched the implementation of The National Child Labor Policy.

Labor leaders from all backgrounds gathered to ratify ILO Convention 190 on violence and harassment which aims to ensure women are safe, respected, and valued in the workplace.

Zonta Club of New Providence President Marisa Mason-Smith says The Bahamas is leading in domestic violence cases which is unacceptable.

Officials also signed ILO Convention 159 which provides for vocational rehabilitation measures for all categories of disabled persons and for opportunities and equal treatment of disabled men and women.

Meanwhile, The National Child Labor Policy is aimed at eliminating and preventing child labor.
