NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Kiwanis Club of Fort Montagu hosted its Annual Max Turner Art, Essay & Speech Competition on Friday, April 17, under the theme “Growing Leaders, One Good deed at a time, Ordinary Kids, Extraordinary Service”: celebrating creativity, confidence, and excellence among students across New Providence.

Held in partnership with the University of The Bahamas Circle K International Club and Toastmasters, and under the patronage of the family of the late Maxwell Turner, the event awarded more than $6,000 in scholarships and prizes to students participating in Kiwanis Service Leadership Programs (SLP), ranging from primary to high school levels.

The competition, launched in 2019, honors the legacy of Past President Maxwell Turner, a dedicated Kiwanian who served the club from 1964 until his passing. Known for his passion for education, language, and the arts, Turner’s legacy continues to inspire young people through this annual initiative.

This year’s competition, held under the leadership of President D’yanndria Saunders-Curry, featured participation from Woodcock Primary, St. Anne’s School, Nassau Christian Schools, Queen’s College, and C.R. Walker Senior High School. High school students from Nassau Christian Schools, C.R. The Kiwanis Club of Fort Montagu extended thanks to all participants, teachers, advisors, judges, partners, and supporters—particularly the Turner family—for contributing to the success of the event.
