NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Managing Director of Bahamasair Tracy Cooper confirmed that flight 402 experienced a mechanical issue with the engine just after take off while it was headed to Acklins before traveling to Nassau from Crooked Island on Wednesday.

In a statement by Bahamasair Thursday morning passengers were informed that they would be transported to Acklins and depart for Nassau at 3:15pm.

Director of Aviation Dr. Kenneth Romer also weighed in on the incident and commended the airline for their safety track record.

He says he’s been in contact with the managing director.

That downed aircraft isn’t expected to impact the airline’s flight schedule.

But this isn’t the first time in the last few weeks that Bahamasair has experienced challenges with their aircraft.

In December, two airplanes were out of service a jet due to an engine fault and an ATR experienced issues with its gears.

Cooper admits that it was a costly venture for the company but Christmas was a busy time and the schedules could not be adjusted.
