Bus Drivers Union Lobbies for a Fee Increase

Bus drivers say they simply want what is fair, after their industry has not seen a fee increase in 14 years.

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Bus drivers responding tonight to the transport minister’s contribution in parliament saying they simply want what is fair. Bus drivers tell our Megan Shepherd they have not seen a fee increase in 14 years.

General Secretary of The Bahamas Unified Bus Drivers Union Corvell Colebrooke, says drivers are not pleased with Minister of Transport, Jobeth Coleby Davis, stating in parliament that the option of a fare increase for bus drivers is not on the table.

Colby-Davis notes she will meet with the Ministry of Finance to design a temporary relief package. However, Colebrooke says that is not enough.

He notes that not only is the cost of living skyrocketing, particularly gas, but oil for their vehicles is also a major concern.

And whether or not the union is prepared to take strike action.
