ST. LUCIA – The Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, directly requesting the reappointment of CARICOM Secretary General, Dr. Carla Barnett be referred to the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ), to render an advisory opinion.

It’s a request CARICOM is moving forward with.

The announcement coming from CARICOM Chairman and St. Lucian President, Philip J. Pierre.

During the meetings, Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, is not shy in her objections to the appointment, saying they found issues surrounding the process with the appointment, asking that the matter be taken to the CCJ.

However, it’s not the first time she’s taken issue, back in February during the 5th heads meeting in St. Kitts and Nevis, Bissessar left the summit early, after Barnett was re-elected then…

She also wrote a 22- page letter to CARICOM, laying out her objections.

In a called media address, Pierre says they will honor that request.

Jamaican Prime Minister, Andrew Holness, also expressing concern, warning that the growing impasse risks damaging institutional trust and regional solidarity.

Pierre, maintaining that the role of the CCJ is to handle matters just like this.
