NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Commonwealth Secretary General was in The Bahamas for the 50th independence celebrations, and in a sit-down interview with Our News, she shares her pride in how the Commonwealth and even The Bahamas in particular have been leaders for change.

Commonwealth Secretary-General Baroness Patricia Scotland is proud of how the Commonwealth has lead the way for global change.

She offers one example that she says shows how The Bahamas played a major role.

As a collection of what’s now 56 member states, of which 25 are small island states like The Bahamas, the secretary-general tells Our News how the Commonwealth also raised the alarm about climate change decades ago.

Probably the most influential aspect in recent years, she explains the impact the Commonwealth had on the United Nation’s sustainable development goals.

Next month, The Bahamas takes centerstage again as the 13th Meeting of Commonwealth Women’s Affairs Ministers Meeting will take place here, where issues like domestic violence, and gender inequality in political spaces will be discussed.
