NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Our nation’s bread and butter industry continues to feel the effects of load shedding and high electricity costs especially in the Family Islands.

Along with the heat, the summer months have brought frequent load shedding, something frustrates residents every year.

For the hotel industry, a constant supply of electricity, especially for those on the Family Islands, is important.

Bahamas Hotel and Tourism Association President Robert Sands spoke on this topic.

There have been calls for residents in the country to tap into renewable energy sources, this Sands says is something hotels have already begun doing.

While major resorts in New Providence are not affected by power outages, Sands says the number one issue lies with the high cost.
