CUBA – A Cuban Minister is under fire after claiming there are no beggars in Cuba, only people pretending to be, sparking outrage in a country grappling with deepening poverty.

Labor Minister Marta Elena FeitĂł said those seen begging or cleaning windshields are “disguised” and “just trying to drink,” prompting calls for her resignation.

Even President Miguel DĂaz-Canel criticized the remarks saying the revolution must never turn its back on the vulnerable.

Cuba’s economy shrank again this year, compounding years of decline.
