NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Dame Janet Bostwick has a wealth of experience on the matter of women in Bahamian politics, having been the first woman to be elected as a member of parliament, the first female attorney general, and the first female acting prime minister.

Now, she says women can’t turn a blind eye to politics.

But she says there are a number of roadblocks that deter women from entering the field, including the pressure to continue running the home on top of your professional responsibilities.

She also says our culture holds many women back from being heard.

Bostwick points to other countries like Sweden which have made efforts to encourage more male participation in home matters and increase female presence in governance.
