UNITED KINGDOM – The final £1 coins featuring Queen Elizabeth II are entering circulation across the United Kingdom.

The Royal Mint says more than 23 million of the late queen’s coins, dated 2021 and 2022, are being released, marking a “pivotal moment in British Coinage history”.

At the same time, 7.5 million new King Charles III £1 coins are also going into tills, and people’s pockets.

The mint says the 2022 Elizabeth coins will be the rarest in circulation, while Charles’s coins, with a bee design on the reverse, represent the new era of coinage.

Both the late Queen’s and the King’s coins remain legal tender and will circulate together for years to come.
