NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Who is telling the truth? That the question was posed by Free National Movement Chairman Dr. Duane Sands after both the prime minister and works minister are on record with mixed messages over BPL’s fuel hedging program.

One day after the prime minister doubled down affirming he did not see a request for a BPL hedging strategy, the Free National Movement is again demanding answers.

The prime minister says he saw no recommendation until last weekend, despite the works minister saying the finance minister, who is also the PM, saw the recommendation prior to a few days ago.

The execution of trades would’ve allowed BPL to secure extra fuel volumes at below-market prices, allowing the power company to keep its fuel charge in a relatively low range.

Sands is not the only one to speak out. FNM Leader Michael Pintard has slammed the government for its failure to execute the trades which he says would’ve saved Bahamians from an increase in power bills.

The FNM has also called on Sears to resign after misleading parliament on this issue.

Sands is now also calling for the finance minister to resign.
