GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – The war of words continuing between Gold Rock in Grand Bahama and the Grand Bahama Port Authority. The GBPA firing back on Monday following Gold Rock’s statement which announced the impending closure of the business that have been a part of the Grand Bahama community for over 30 years. The GBPA insisting the move is unnecessary and those affected deserve the facts.

The Grand Bahama Port Authority slamming the move by Gold Rock saying it will cost hardworking families in Grand Bahama their livelihoods.

In a press statement released this morning, the GBPA claims that the Del Zotto family fell short of the amount of aggregate they were contractually required to. The GBPA says as a result, a new contract was proposed by the Grand Bahama Development Company, DEVCO.

According to the statement, that contract sought to provide the Del Zotto family with exactly what they have been using to run their operations so they would not be disadvantaged.

The GBPA says regardless of the Del Zottos stance on the mining contract, there is no need to shut down the other businesses in Freeport, such as the hardware and furniture store which the GBPA claims were totally unaffected by the Gold Rock negotiations.

Meanwhile, member of the GB business community Darren Cooper says the closure of Gold Rock is a huge concern for most residents.

Leader of the Opposition Michael Pintard also expressing concern, highlighting the fact that there are supply chain issues globally and insisting the matter requires the attention of the government.

Pintard revealing that he did reach out to the nations leader who agreed to intervene.
