NASSAU, BAHAMAS – It’s been just over a month since the mask mandate dropped in The Bahamas. But school kids and teachers are still masked up.

That leaves the question, when will our school children be mask-free?

It’s the question we put to General Pediatrician Dr. Charelle Lockhart.

Some schools have already begun examining the criteria and what a mask-free environment would look like and for which age groups.

But that may be closely tied to vaccination rates in kids.

The first pediatric doses of the COVID-19 vaccine for children five through 11 rolled out in July – that was just four short months ago.

Unlike in the United States, the vaccine is not available to children through their private pediatricians.
