NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Age was just a number for Donald Martinborough in his return to the Sunfish Nationals.

The 3x Sunfish World Champion returned to the top of Bahamian sailing, capturing his 15th national title at the 2026 Bahamas International Sunfish Class Association National Championships at the Montagu foreshore.

Martinborough, who recently celebrated his 67th birthday, finished with a net score of 15 to defeat defending champion Tanaj Manos and Joss Knowles.

The victory comes after several years away from competitive sailing, and further adds to one of the most decorated resumes in Bahamian sport.

The three-time world champion also secured qualification for the 2026 Central American and Caribbean games, while ending Exuma Sailing Club’s two-year run of national champions.

Martinborough remains the last Bahamian to win a Sunfish World Championship title, a distinction he has held since claiming his third world crown in Nassau in 1988.
