MOTIA Debate Team Now Champions

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Bahamas’ Ministry of Tourism, Investments and Aviation National Tourism debate team are now regional debate champions! 

The team, made up of three students from Patrick J. Bethel High School in Abaco, defeated Jamaica in the virtual finals.  

Principal, Dr. Paula Kemp-Johnson, beaming with pride.

Subject Coordinator and coach, Ruby Rolle, commending the team for their dedication and outstanding performance. 

Four countries and 11 schools competed in the regional finals. Debate team member, Tianna Bootle, explains the various tourism based topics.

Oshen Fox, says although it was stressful preparing for the regional competition, it was an eye opening experience.

Now, the Abaco-based team competed nationally against 14 other schools to become the national tourism debate team. After overcoming several setbacks, including Hurricane Dorian and the pandemic, the team still managed to make the country proud. 

The third member of the team is Dinero Sainphar. Team Bahamas was awarded trophies, medals and all expense paid trip for a weekend getaway at any Sandals Resort location.
