GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – The North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletic Association (NACAC) Championships are set to return to The Bahamas this summer.
Thursday night in Grand Bahama, stakeholders officially launched the countdown to one of the region’s premier track and field events, hosted august 15-17 at the Grand Bahama Sports Complex.
The meet will feature athletes from over 30 member federations competing across 45 events.
With Tokyo’s World Athletics Championships on the horizon in September, this meet will serve as a crucial qualifier for many of the region’s top athletes.
NACAC is one of the six continental bodies under World Athletics and serves as the official governing organization for athletics in the region.
Mike Sands currently serves as the organization’s president.
Under his tenure, this will be the second time The Bahamas hosts the event, following the 2022 edition, also held in Grand Bahama.
Officials said that logistical planning is nearly complete and that Bahamians should expect an elite competition and electric atmosphere across all three days of action in August.
NBA Summer League
Another member of the senior men’s national team program is headed to NBA Summer League.
Isaiah Mobley is on the Golden State Warriors’ summer league roster for both San Francisco and Las Vegas.
He comes off a solid 2024–25 season in the Philadelphia 76ers organization with the Delaware Blue Coats averaging 17.4 points, 7.9 rebounds per game.
Mobley joined the national team at training camp last summer in Houston and was included on the 19‑man extended roster for the FIBA Olympic qualifying tournament.
Originally drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers, Mobley looks to make a mark with his third franchise within the last three years.
Powerlifting
Aliczia Turner continues her quest for her pro card and recently had the best performance of her young powerlifting career.
Turner set several new personal bests at the 2025 USA powerlifting raw nationals in College Park, Georgia.
Representing the JKS Fitness Powerlifting team, coached by Jevaughn Saunders, she finished 10th overall in the women’s 90kg class.
She posted lifts of 175kg or 386 lbs in the squat, 95kg or 209 lbs on the bench press, and 205kg or 452 lbs in the deadlift.
That brought her total to 475kg or 1047.2 lbs
All new personal bests, they produced a dots score of 428.41.
Turner also moved closer to her goal of earning a pro card.
To achieve that elite status, she needs a top three finish in her weight class, or dots score of 475 when she returns to the circuit in 2026.
