RAGGED ISLAND, BAHAMAS – Authorities are still probing what led to that fatal plane crash that killed two people on Ragged Island just before dawn on Sunday.

The incident happened near the Duncan Town Airport.

RBPF officers and members of the Royal Bahamas Defense Force responded and met a twin engine engulfed in flames.

On the sidelines of the opening ceremony for the CARICOM Heads of Social Security meetings Monday morning, National Security Minister Wayne Munroe said several agencies are investigating the incident.

The issue of small plane safety has been raised in recent months.

Just last month a Piper Zztec Pa-23-250 aircraft ditched in waters off western New Providence while heading to the Lynden Pindling International Airport.

And back in August, a two-seater plane crashed in Abaco.

Aviation Director Dr. Kenneth Romer says it’s an issue they’re focusing on. He also insists residents also have a part to play in reporting any concerns.
