NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A U.S.. the preclearance section was a part of the Grand Bahama International Airport for decades, dating all the way back to the 1970’s.

It was a luxury grand Bahamians valued before departing to the United States.

But once Hurricane Dorian ravaged the island’s main airport and then slow reconstruction, U.S. preclearance was shut down.

Still with plans for a new airport recently announced, many were hoping it would return once construction was complete.

The U.S. Charge D’affaires Usha Pitts lists other reasons for why there are no plans for its return. She confirmed the United States has several law enforcement officers working and living in Grand Bahama.
