NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Self-styled activist Omar Archer is appealing his conviction for intentional libel and has been granted bail until the matter is decided.

Last month, the 50-year-old was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment over a series of posts he made on Facebook in 2015.

Archer posted a woman’s photo on his Facebook page and falsely claimed that she had AIDS and was deliberately infecting others; and  that she had killed her baby and buried the child in a bucket.

He did not testify in his defence at his trial, nor did he call any witnesses.
