NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Road closures, tight security sweeps, screening, and saturated patrols are all a part of the police’s plans to keep this year’s Junkanoo parades safe.

Our Joshua Williams attended a special press briefing at police headquarters this morning and tells us more in this report.

Junkanoo is days away, and police say they’ll be stepping up their presence to ensure the safety of attendees.

Its expected more than 8,000 people will attend the Boxing Day parade that’s slated for Christmas night.

With it comes the need for heightened security and Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police, Roberto Goodman, says there are certain rules everyone needs to follow.

Police say the event will also be a no bottle zone and with these large parades come street closures.
