GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – In less than 30 days, demolition will begin in Grand Bahama as the government prepares to construct a new Grand Bahama International Airport.

The announcement coming from Deputy Prime Minister Chester Cooper recently.

Now while the move is good news for Grand Bahamians some are concerned about what that airport will look like.

It’s these images that’s going viral on social media.

Proposed renderings of the Grand Bahama International Airport – the renderings were displayed during Deputy Prime Minister and Tourism Minister Chester Cooper’s presentation at the 2024 Grand Bahama Business Outlook.

While it was not confirmed that this will be the final design for the new airport, some on social media are concerned and call it cheap, childish and rural while others say with the proposed airport design, one hurricane and we’re back to square one.

Well-known realtor and owner of James Sarles Realty, James Sarles and Grand Bahama Resident Mike Stafford say Grand Bahama needs an airport that is hurricane resilient.

Stafford suggests what that new airport design should look like.

While Sarles says there is also in need of a modern fixed-based operation for private aircraft.

Our News also spoke with attorney Tiffany Dennison who says ultimately Grand Bahama deserves a quality airport.
