UNITED STATES – Kristian Robinson and BJ Murray are putting together career-best seasons in Triple-A, and both Bahamians are making strong cases for their first Major League call-ups.

Robinson continues to produce for the Reno Aces, recently turning in a three-hit performance while raising his season totals to six home runs, 32 RBI, and 12 stolen bases.

Once considered one of baseball’s top prospects, the 25-year-old has re-established himself as a legitimate option for the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Meanwhile, Murray is enjoying the most productive season of his professional career with the Iowa Cubs.

The switch-hitting infielder recently blasted his eighth home run of the year and has continued to provide consistent offense while showcasing his defensive versatility.

While both players still face competition for roster spots, their performance at baseball’s highest minor league level is becoming harder to ignore.

UB Mingoes Softball

The University of The Bahamas took another step toward rebuilding its women’s softball program with its first high school girls softball prospect event.

The Mingoes hosted 28 student-athletes at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex.

Mingoes head coach Yvana McDonald has been aggressively working to restart the softball program since taking over the team.

Powerlifting

Two Bahamian powerlifters tested themselves against some of the best athletes in the United States and walked away with personal bests at the USAPL Raw National Championships in Chicago.

Representing the JKS Fitness Powerlifting Team, Aliczia Turner and Indera Gibson competed on the national stage alongside coach Je’Vaughn K. Saunders.

Turner-Bain delivered a strong performance despite battling recent bicep and shoulder injuries, finishing among the top 15 in her weight class and setting a new personal record of 100 kilograms, or 220 pounds, in the bench press.

Gibson also rose to the occasion, recording a personal-best squat of 167.5 kilograms, or 369 pounds, after successfully moving down a weight class following a challenging weight cut.
