WNBA

Jonquel Jones and the New York Liberty got back in the win column Tuesday night, defeating the Las Vegas Aces 87-76 in a preview of next week’s WNBA Commissioner’s Cup Final.

In a matchup of the last two WNBA champions, the victory snapped a two-game losing streak for the Liberty, who had dropped consecutive close games to Washington and Los Angeles after opening the season as one of the league’s hottest teams.

Jones finished with 14 points, five rebounds and three assists as the Liberty used a strong fourth quarter to pull away from the Aces.

Hopefully for New York, this builds momentum heading into the Commissioner’s Cup championship game when they host the Aces on June 30 in Brooklyn.

MLB

Jazz Chisholm Jr. responded in the best way possible Tuesday night — with his bat.

One day after drawing criticism from Yankees manager Aaron Boone for playing the field with a lollipop in his mouth, Chisholm delivered the go-ahead two-run home run in the sixth inning to lift New York to a 4-3 win over the Detroit Tigers.

Chisholm finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI, including his 12th home run of the season.

The blast was his fourth go-ahead home run in the sixth inning or later this season, the most in Major League Baseball.

Chisholm also continues to show off his unique combination of power and speed, remaining one of just five players in the majors with at least 10 doubles, 10 home runs and 20 stolen bases this year.

The Yankees snapped a three-game losing streak with the victory.
