NASSAU, BAHAMAS – We continue our ‘Women in Politics’ series as we mark the lead-up to the one-year anniversary of the Progressive Liberal Party being elected to office. In this edition, we focus on Senate President Lashell Adderley.

Lashell Adderley was not elected as a member of parliament. She was appointed by Prime Minister Philip Davis to not only sit in the senate but also preside over proceedings.

Her appointment coupled with the appointment of Patricia Deveaux as house speaker, marks the first time both chambers of parliament are headed by women.

Adderley, who would be thrusted into political life for the first time in her professional career, spoke to the number of women taking lead roles as a part of this administration.

She says over the past year, she’s enjoyed sitting in the seat as president and spoke to many of the chamber’s accomplishments.

Adderley also not mincing words when it came to a particular piece of legislation that she describes as being very near and dear to her heart.

She also acknowledged that being in the chair hasn’t been a bed of roses.
