NASSAU , BAHAMAS – It was a relatively quiet morning on Thursday in the southern zones of the capital, at nomination centers in Southern Shores and Carmichael.

Arriving promptly at 8:40 a.m. at the Gerald Cash Primary School nomination center was the first official nominee of the morning, independent candidate Simeon Mackey.

Mackey, a 68-year-old building contractor, said that he has been part of the community for 49 years and believes it is never too late to be the change you want to see, adding that he hopes to pass on his knowledge to the next generation.

Incumbent PLP candidate, Keith Bell, arrived by motorcade, flanked by family members and supporters, saying he believes his record over the last term will earn him a second term.

Then there was veteran politician and Free National Movement candidate Arinthia Komolafe, making it clear she was not sent to Carmichael, but chose to offer to represent the community she grew up in.

Shortly after, Coalition of Independents candidate Charlotte Green arrived to secure her place on the ballot, identifying flooding and infrastructure as top priorities for residents.

Also nominated in the constituency was independent candidate O’Brien Knowles, who said that this is his third time offering himself for public service and believes voters should give independent candidates stronger consideration.
