Sunak Becomes UK PM After Audience With King
UNITED KINGDOM – Rishi Sunak is now Britain’s 57th prime minister following his first meeting with King Charles II on Tuesday.
42-year-old Sunak was asked to form a new government during the audience at Buckingham Palace.
This was also the new king’s first opportunity to invite a new prime minister to form a government.
The former treasury chief won the conservative party’s leadership after his rival Penny Mordaunt dropped out at the last minute.
In paying tribute to his predecessor Liz Truss he said some mistakes were made not born of ill will or bad intentions.
