GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – Hurricane Dorian devastated more than lives in Grand Bahama, it also had a huge impact on the environment.

In this week’s sustainability first report, the acting director of the Forestry Unit gives an update on the regrowth of forests in eastern Grand Bahama.

After the devastation of Hurricane Dorian left the natural forests of eastern grand bahama largely decimated in 2019, Acting Director of the Forestry Unit within the Ministry of Environment, Danielle Hanek says hope is on the horizon for the rebound.

While it may not sound like much, Hanek assures us that in a four year span, the growth is reassuring.

In a partnership officials from the University of The Bahamas North and the Ministry of Ggriculture and Forestry Resources compared the groundwater tables in areas heavily hit by Hurricane Dorian in eastern Grand Bahama compared to less impacted areas in Freeport.
